Trading In Your 'Starter' Diamond

If you’re like many couples, you may have said “I do” filled with love, but little cash. As a result, you may have had to settle for an engagement ring that fell short of your dreams.

But you don't have to live with this disappointment forever. Once you've moved up in the world and can afford a little more, you can trade in that old diamond for a better one. In most cases, we will gladly reset a new diamond into your ring setting, and credit you for the value of the old stone toward your new purchase – even if you didn't purchase the original ring from us.

Trading up to a larger, better quality center diamond is a perfect birthday, anniversary, holiday, Valentine's Day or Mother's Day gift for your spouse. It symbolizes how much you love and value her – and how these feelings for her have only grown since you first said your vows to one another.

You may decide that you want to "trade up" on more than just the diamond. You may want a different setting as well, and we are happy to oblige. Also, upgrading doesn't have to be limited just to engagement rings; you can trade up on virtually any piece of diamond jewelry.

Some of the more common reasons why people choose to upgrade their diamond jewelry include the following:

• You can now afford a bigger, better quality diamond and want the piece you are wearing to reflect your improved status (but still retain the original romance and memories attached to the original setting).
• Your tastes may have changed and you may desire a different diamond shape.
• Styles have changed, and you may want a new, more fashionable setting.• You may want to add some additional stones to give your piece more sparkle and importance.
• You may want to reset the diamond from an heirloom piece or estate piece to have a memorable piece of jewelry with a more contemporary look that reflects your own individuality.

Keep in mind that upgrading to a larger diamond may require a new setting, as your new stone may not fit into the old setting. Also, certified diamonds are more easily upgraded than non-certified diamonds. Experts recommend that you request to see the certification on the new diamond whenever you trade up.
